Debbie Dunn

Hello, I’m Debbie and I set up Choice Tutors nearly 6 years ago after recognising the huge demand for private tuition.  I’m lively, enthusiastic  and passionate about teaching.  I hope this comes across in my lessons, which I aim to make as enjoyable as possible.

I tutor English and Maths (up to age 11); Eleven Plus and Business Studies GCSE

Qualifications

My qualifications include a First Class honours degree  in Industrial Economics from Nottingham University.  During my professional career as a Business Consultant in the Insurance industry, I became a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute.  I obtained a PGCE from the University of Hertfordshire in 2004 and have Qualified Teacher Status.  All certificates are available for inspection.

Teaching Experience

I have been tutoring for nearly 6 years and, before that, worked in the classroom.  I have also co-run a Theatre in Education company which promoted drama in schools.

Tutoring Approach

I have very high expectations of my pupils and will work them hard.  However, I believe learning should be relaxed and fun.  I never belittle a child or undermine their confidence.   I try to ensure that the children feel supported and able to ask questions for clarification when needed.  I use a variety of teaching methods to generate enthusiasm and interest in the subjects being taught.

I regularly tutor children for the Eleven Plus and Common Entrance exams and have a high success rate.  In addition, I tutor for SATs to ensure children are confident and well prepared for these tests.
